Michael Nock has woven two careers together over a period of almost four decades. He has combined a strong interest and love of art with his formal training and background in finance. He started his career in Sydney with an Australian financial services company and moved to Hong Kong in 1980, where he is still resident. In HK he established a number of businesses including a publicly listed corporation and a fund management business before moving to LA to further his art studies.
He holds both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and currently serves on the board of Trustees of CalArts. He is also involved in numerous community based art initiatives through a non-profit foundation he established in 2013.
He is an award winning animated filmmaker and travels the world pursuing his passion for art. Today he is an active painter with a particular interest in contemporary art and landscape. Michael Nock is a practicing artist primarily focusing on oil painting.
Nock’s art practice roots in the rich traditional Australian landscape painting and in the questions and concerns of contemporary Asian society. Through this fusion, Nock attempts to provide new vision of his environment. He has participated in a number of group exhibitions including the painting exhibition "Your Friend the Enemy" at the S. H. Ervin Gallery in Sydney.
